Help, Hyperpigmentation!

Looking at my face, the dark spots irritate me. Especially the area around my mouth is darker. I used to hide it by putting a layer of foundation on it. That worked fine, but didn’t solve the problem. I also bought whitening capsules from Indonesia and used them every night to treat my dark spots. For a moment I thought they worked, but I think I just wanted them to work.

No matter what I tried, the area around my mouth remains darker than the rest of my face. But maybe it was also my own actions. I often touch this area in a day. And this area is always a bit drier than the rest of my face, especially now that I often wear a face mask.

Hyperpigmentation is a more common problem when you have an Asian skin. Do you also suffer from it? Here are some tips to fix it.

What is hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is a skin condition caused by an overproduction of melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives color to your skin. The overproduction of it gives you skin dark spots, like cute freckles but also not so charming dark spots (which I have near my mouth for example).

Hyperpigmentation is mainly caused by UV rays. But hormones and inflammation could also be a cause. People with acne-prone skin have a higher chance of hyperpigmentation. But the blue light from our devices also causes it. They trigger free radicals in the skin that can trigger overproduction of melanin.

How can you fade hyperpigmentation?

Fortunately the dark spots aren’t permanent. Yet it can take weeks or months to get rid of it. These products will help you with this.

Vitamine C serums

Vitamine C can reduce melanin production. This makes your skin tone more even. Vitamine C doesn’t irritate your skin and is therefor great for the sensitive skin. But it also works well for the oily and combination skin types.

Brightening Face Masks

Brightening face masks give your face a boost in treating hyperpigmentation. They are easy and effective to use. Use one every day in your fight against dark spots.

Toner Pads

Toner pads are ideal if it takes a long time for your dark spots to disappear. You can add them in your daily skin care routine. Use them after cleansing and before applying a serum or ampoule. The toner pads remove dead skin cells and boost the moisture level of your skin.

Sunscreens

Since the sun can make your dark spots even darker, it’s not a bad idea to use a sunscreen every day. A sunscreen gives UV protection and strengthens your skin at the same time.
