When I was in high school, I had a subscription to the (Dutch) Elle for years. I received a free six-month subscription with the purchase of a pair of shoes and then something went wrong, because my subscription continued without having to pay a cent. Because I liked the magazine, I kept my mouth shut.
At one point the Elle wrote that any self-respecting fashionista could no longer go out without a bottle of Evian Facial Spray in her bag. The Evian Facial Spray is a mist, containing the natural mineral water Evian. And many models and celebs were spotted with it. So I had to have it too.
Once I got it, I sprayed my face with it several times a day. Especially in the summer it was wonderfully refreshing. And then my classmates wanted it too. Suddenly they started asking if they could have some of it or (worse) they just took it out of my bag and sprayed themselves or each other with it. I was not amused, especially not after the bottle was empty in no time. So I didn’t buy it anymore (I was salty) and never used a face mist since.
Anyway, I am going to buy a face mist again soon, because they are great when your skin needs some extra hydration (like mine at the moment) and it has a nice feeling.
Yet I notice that, despite the fact that face mist have been around for a while, they are not very popular among skin care addicts. Even a big Insta skin care lover (with a lot of followers), recently wondered in a Reel why the hell he should buy a face mist. And I will now explain why 😉
What is a face mist?
In my time with the Evian Facial Spray, you used a face mist just to moisturize and refresh your face. Face mists nowadays are more advanced. It can also provide sun protection, prevent skin aging or help you to get zen.
Despite all the promises, it is advisable to buy a face mist that contains the right ingredients for your skin. For example, if you don not want your skin to dry out further during the day, you should buy a face mist that contains hyaluronic acid.
How to use a face mist?
The nice thing about a face mist is that you can always use it. It has no special step in the skin care routine. You can use it, for example, after cleansing or when you finished your makeup. You decide when you like it!
Before using the mist, shake it well. Close your eyes and mouth, and hold your breath. Hold the spray 15 to 20 cm from your face and spray about five times. The spray absorbs immediately. Make sure the spray doesn’t get on your eyes or mouth and wipe it off if necessary. If it starts to sting your eyes, rinse your eyes right away and stop using the face mist.
The benefits of a face mist
Besides keeping your skin fresh and moisturized a face mist has some more benefits:
- Extra hydration after cleansing. Especially when your skin feels dry or tight after you cleanse it.
- It ensures that your make-up stays on better and longer.
- It makes serums and moisturizers absorb better.
- It calms the skin after a skin treatment.
