My husband found gelatin sheets in the kitchen and asked if he could throw it away. I have never cooked or baked with gelatin before, but then something came to mind. “We can make nose strips out of it”, I shouted.
My husband was immediately enthusiastic and that same evening we got to work. We smeared our nose with the melted gelatine and then sat in front of the TV watching The Bold Type.
After 45 minutes we gently pulled the strip off our noses. I’ve really done this a million times, so I wasn’t surprised by the results. But next to me I heard: “Whoo, look what I’ve got! Look how dirty my nose was!”
Since then he asks me every night if we can make nose strips again. And I don’t blame him, it’s a very satisfying job! So now we do it every week (every day is just not that good for your nose skin). Despite the nose strips, the black and white heads keep coming back.
So I share 3 tips to keep your nose clean more often during the week!
Why do you get black and white heads on your nose?
The main causes of black and white heads on your nose are stress and hormones. This means all skin types can get them. Even though it looks dirty, it has nothing to do with how often you was your face.
What you see on your nose is a build-up of sebum. If the surface is exposed to air, it will turn black. They then become blackheads. If the surface is not exposed to air, they will become white heads. So black and white heads are actually the same.
Men are more likely to suffer from black and white heads, because their pores are larger. They don’t necessarily have more black and white heads than women, but they just stand out more.
How to keep your nose clean from black and white heads?
It’s better to not squeeze them out. Your fingers are too big to squeeze them out properly and they can clog your pores more. Therefore 3 tips that do work to fight black and white heads to get rid of them for good:
1. Salicylic acid
Prevention is better than cure. You can prevent black and white heads with salicylic acid. Salicylic acid enters and loosens the pores so that the sebum appears on its own.
Keep your skin clean regularly. This prevents dead skin cells from settling in your pores.
2. Exfoliate your nose skin
Exfoliating can help loosen dead skin cells and clogged pores. There are special nose scrubs with a brush that can help you with this.
Apply the scrub and make circular motions from the center of your nose outwards. Do not scrub more than once or twice a week.
3. nose strips
You can also use cleaning nose strips. You stick the strips on your nose and when you pull them off, you pull the dirt with it.
It is a quick and effective way to get rid of your black and white heads. Just don’t do it too often and don’t leave the strips on your nose too long. Especially if you have sensitive skin.
If the tips above doesn’t work…
If all the above tips do not work, it is best to visit a skin specialist. They can safely remove the black and white heads. And they also offer laser treatments and microdermabrasion.
