K-beauty skin care routine must-haves!

My sister and I were probably one of the first Instagram users. We imagined that we were really good mobile phone photographers. We took photos of everything: grass fields, random people, autumn leaves, food…

We wanted to take a our photography skills to a new level, so we were searching for a photo editing app. I tried several paid ones before my sister discovered “this amazing free photo editing app called Instagram.”

We started both an account and it was pretty awesome back then. There was only a ‘popular page’ where the photos with the most likes were shown. Insta hashtags didn’t exist yet and it was easy to receive likes and followers.

But that was more than 10 years ago. Today I sometimes don’t know where to start at Instagram. There is just lots and lots of content! Most of the time I’m just endlessly scrolling.

During my endlessy scrolling sessions I see a lot of K-beauty products (thanks to the algorithm!). Sometimes I see the same products over and over again and then I know that these products might be popular.

So I made a list of popular K-beauty skin care routine products. I tried some of them and some of them are still on my list, like the Beauty of Joseon Repair Serum.

Because of the popularity of these products doesn’t mean that you will like them. I encourage you to try them and see if they work for your skin. And if you understand (or not!) why they are popular.

Step 1 Cleanser: Banila Co Cleansing Balm Original

The Clean It Zero balm transforms from a balm to a soft oil when you massage it on your skin. It even changes structure 3 times: from sorbet, to oil, to milk.

The balm is ideal for removing (heavy) waterproof makeup. And it also gently cleanse and refresh your skin at the same time.

Personal note: I really like this cleansing balm to effectly remove my makeup. But as a regular cleanser I find it less suitable. I prefer a foaming cleanser more. Read my review here.

Step 2: Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner

The Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner is an intensely moisturizing toner. The toner has a minimalistic formula. This reduces the risk of irritations and allergies.

The toner consists 91.3% of Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract. This is an antioxidant that is anti-inflammatory and enhances nutrients.

Personal note: I love the Pyunkang Yul’s skin care products. They work great for my dry and sensitive skin. The toner is my personal favorite. It can always be found on my shelf.

Step 3: Beauty of Joseon Repair Serum

The Repair Serum is a rich and silky serum. It contains traditional Korean herbal ingredients, also known Als hanbang. Snail mucin is the star ingredient and helps to improve the skin tone, reduce hyperpigmentation and to fade scars.

The serum contains naturel ingredients and is free from artificial fragrances and colors, parabens, sulfates, alcohol, silicone, mineral oils and essential oils.

Personal note: I haven’t tried this serum yet, but I’m very curious about it. Once I ordered it and tried it, I will write a review about this.

Step 4: A’PIEU Milk One-Pack

This sheet mask is available in 7 flavors!

This milk sheet mask helps to hydrate and nourish the skin. It’s available in 7 flavors and all the sheet masks contain extracts from the flavor. All sheet masks contain milk extract to brighten complexion and boost the collagen production of your skin.

The masks are available in coffee, green tea, white, banana, chocolate, coconut and strawberry.

Personal note: I tried the strawberry sheet mask once and I was really surprised by the quality of this sheet mask! First of all it comes in a funny milk carton shape package. The sheet mask was richly filled with a milky substance. My skin felt very soft and glowing after using this sheet mask. I will definitely buy this again and try an another flavor.

The Miracle Cream is a non-greasy cream. It absorbs quickly and helps to strengthen your skin barrier. It promises to work wonders for your skin within 30 days.

It contains tea tree, AHA, BHA and PHA. It purifies, removes dead skin cells and sebum inside the pores. Besides it also prevents loss of moisture.

Personal note: Honestly, I don’t like this cream at all. Even though it says it’s non-greasy, it leaves my skin very greasy after applying. I also got some pimples from it. Read my two-piece review here and here.

Step 6: COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA+++

The Aloe Soothing Sun Cream is a sun screen with a light texture. This makes it absorb quickly. The cream protects your skin to UVA and UVB rays.

It’s suitable for all skin types and helps to improve the moisture barrier of the skin.

Personal note: I didn’t feel like buying this yet. Therefor it isn’t on my to-buy list. However I’m still looking for a sunscreen that suits my skin. Maybe this sunscreen might work. I have to try this in the future.
