Reasons why you need Vitamin C in your skin care

My youngest sister only buys skin care products as long as it contain vitamin C. One time we were at a local drug store to buy skin care products for her. She was very picky, searched the ingredient list as a true detective.

“As long as it doesn’t contain Vitamin C, I don’t need it”, she grumbled. I helped her find it, but I wasn’t sure what she was exactly looking for.

As we spent more time in the store, she became more and more irritated. I pretended to be helping, but it wasn’t still clear to me what we were looking for.

Suddenly she decided that this store wasn’t for her and we left the store. I was relieved. Later she texted me that she find the perfect vitamin C skin care in an another store. Luckily it turned out well 🙂

To be honest, I don’t have any skin care products with vitamin C and I seriously don’t know why. Because I really like it! When I got the La Cabin Vitamin C Ampoules, I really notice a difference in my skin. I decided to buy skin care with vitamin C more often, but that never happened.

Yet is is a nice ingredient and that’s why it deserves a spotlight. Here are some reasons why you need vitamin C in your skin care.

What is vitamin C?

Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin. It’s also called ascorbic acid. Unfortunately your body isn’t able to make vitamin C on its own. So it’s important to get it from your diet.

Vitamin C is also an important antioxidant. It protects your body against free radicals. It also contributes to good resistance and it supports your immune system. So when you have a cold or the flu, vitamin C helps to get rid of it faster!

So vitamin C is important for your body, but it’s also a game changer for your skin. These are the reasons why:

1. It effectively tackles skin aging

Vitamin C helps the skin to make collagen. Collagen is a protein that makes your skin firm and elastic. A firm and elastic skin keeps your skin young and prevents it from aging.

2. It prevents pigmentation spots

Vitamine C ensures that the production of pigment is inhibited. Your skin can create pigmentation spots when it’s exposed to the sun. When you use sunscreen in combination with vitamin C skin care products, you can prevent the formation of pigmentation spots.

3. It fights impurities

Vitamin C also works well against acne. It prevents irritation, it counteracts inflammation, and it helps the skin to recover. Because of this red spots disappear quickly.

What you should pay attention to

Before you buy vitamine C skin care products, you should know the following. Vitamin C is very sensitive to light and air and will dissipate when it comes into contact with. Be sure to buy an airtight package which transmits little light. For example, a package with a pump is very suitable.

Vitamin C in skin care also only works in high concentrations (at least 4%). You can find this information on the ingredient list. Look for names like absorbic acid or ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate. Often the percentage of ingredients isn’t indicated on the list. Therefore check if vitamin C is at the top of the list. Then you can assume that there is enough vitamin C in it.
