Review | SOME BY MI Super Matcha Pore Care Starter Kit

Let’s start with the truth: I didn’t test the SOME BY MI Matcha Pore Care Starter Kit myself, but my husband did!

A couple of months ago, I was shopping some skin care products for myself. ‘You never buy skin care for me’, my husband complained.
‘I didn’t know you were interested in skin care’, I replied surprised.
‘Well I do.’
‘Okay, what are you looking for?’, I asked.
‘Something to minimize my pores.’

After this convo I asked him three more times if he was serious -before I order something and he didn’t mean it. But he was.

I found the ultimate match pretty quickly. The SOME BY MI Matcha Pore Care Starter Kit is exactly what he would like: it’s a skin care routine for pore tightening, it has his favorite flavor matcha as a scent, it contains a clay mask (his favorite face mask) and the packaging is in his favorite color green.

Once he had it in his hands, he was indeed excited about it! He’s been using it for quite some time now and here is what he thinks of it.

About the brand SOME BY MI

SOME BY MI is a Korean brand. The word ‘mi’ means ‘beauty’ in Korean. The English words ‘something’ and ‘by a miracle’ were combined to it, and together they created the sentence ‘some by mi’.

SOME BY MI believes that natural beauty deserves attention, and that’s why they offer a wide range of skin care and makeup essentials. Their popularity started in Southeast Asian. The brand opened pop-up stores in Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia. That was so successful that the brand expanded to more than 20 countries worldwide.

About the SOME BY MI Matcha Pore Care Starter Kit

The SOME BY MI Matcha Pore Care Starter Kit is a skin care routine for pore tightening. Ideal if you suffer from large pores. Please note, you can’t make large pores disappear, but you can make them less visible. Read more about this here.

The Super Matcha Line Set consists of a cleansing gel, toner, serum and a clay mask. My husband thought that there were too many skin care steps: ‘I don’t have time for this’.
After I told him about my skin care routine (twice a day), he wanted to try it. But he didn’t know if he was going to keep it up everyday.

All the products contain matcha water and BHA. These ingredients gently purifies your skin and tighten up your pores.

The products promise to combat pore concerns, such as excess sebum, blackheads and dead skin cells, leaving your skin clear and refreshed. The products are also not greasy and don’t leave any skin irritations.

Step 1: Super Matcha Cleansing Gel

The Super Matcha Cleansing Gel cleanses your pores from sebum and impurities. It’s a clear, almost odorless gel and according to my husband, he doesn’t have to use much of it. The packaging is small and he just need a tiny bit for his face. It’s the only product he uses everyday and he can still use it for a while.

The big plus of this gel is that it cleans his nose and cheeks (his pore problem area) well. With other cleansers*, his nose and cheeks often remain greasy, but with this one not.
*I asked him what he means with ‘other cleansers’. Turns out mister is using my cleansers every now and then.

Yet he wouldn’t buy the gel in a bigger size. ‘I didn’t think the cleanser was that special either’, he said.

Step 2: Super Matcha Clay Mask

The Super Matcha Clay Mask promises to maintain a clean pore condition by removing blackheads and dead skin cells. Okay, this one was a big hit for him.

He was very enthusiastic about it! The clay mask has a thick beige structure. ‘It smells like matcha and has matcha tea grains in it’, he said.

The mask should be left on for 10-20 minutes. At first he thought it was too long: ‘Then I spend my entire evening on my skin care routine…’

But after the first use he was very pleased by it. I also see him (2-3 times a week) watching TV with this mask on.

He finds it difficult to wash off this mask. He manages best to remove it with a washcloth and lukewarm water.

He also regrets that this mask didn’t come in a larger package. ‘With this packaging, you would go through it quickly if you use it daily’, he says. Still, he would buy a bigger size of this product!

Step 3: Super Matcha Toner

The Super Matcha Toner absorbs excess sebum. It also provides viscous skin elasticity. The toner has no clear matcha odor and looks like what you can expect from a toner. But that was my opinion. My husband didn’t have a clear opinion about this.

For weeks he didn’t know what to do with this product. He asked me several times what a toner does and why he should use it. Here is why.

‘I’m just using it and I don’t know what it actually does’, he complained. So no, he wouldn’t buy this again.

Step 4: Super Matcha Serum

The Super Matcha Serum controls sebum and ensures that your pores are intensive tightened.

The serum has a clear and watery consistency. It doesn’t really have a clear matcha odor. My husband really like this serum. ‘It feels like water on my face’, he said. He also added that it’s non-sticky and it absorbs fast.

He thinks the serum is the perfect finishing in touch. It makes his skin looks radiant and healthy. Unfortunately the packaging is so small again. After a few uses, the liquid was already reduced. But he would definitely buy this again in a bigger size!

His skin results

After using it for more than a month, he definitely sees a change in his skin. His nose and cheeks aren’t greasy anymore and his pores are less visible. I have to agree with him!

He likes that the products didn’t give him any skin irritations and he like to use them. Although he finds the skin care routine time consuming, he’s convinced that you have to use it daily to get the best results.

I’m glad his first real skin care routine turned out so well and I have to say his skin has visibly improves since using this!
