The first two years of high school we had a typical mean girl in our class. I didn’t like her and I also was afraid of her, because I was one of her victims.
The teachers knew she was bullying several classmates, but didn’t do anything about it.
The father of the mean girl was my moms co-worker and apparently he was very nice. How was that possible? His wife, the mean girl’s mother, was a door-to-door saleswoman for beauty products. So he asked my mother if his wife could come to our house to sell us some products. Hell no!
My mom said yes. So one evening she came by with a bag full of pink skin care products. Reluctantly I listened to her story. She told us that the products contain propolis and what benefits it had for the skin. I tried some propolis cream of her and I liked it secretly.
Out of courtesy my mom bought some of her products. And yes, I used the propolis cream for a while.
I don’t know if the mean girl knew that her mother came to our house and I’ve never told to anyone that I used a cream from the mean girl’s mother.
Recently I saw propolis again in K-beauty skin care and had to think about its benefits again. So if you aren’t familiar with propolis, here are 3 reasons to try it!
What is propolis?
Propolis is made by honeybees. It’s a glue-like substance that honeybees make from buds, plant sap, resin and other botanical sources.
The bees use propolis for their nest. They close cracks and openings and cover the walls with it. The color of propolis is often dark brown.
3 reasons to use propolis in your skin care
The ancient Greeks used propolis of its medicinal properties and as an antibiotic. It kills bacteria and fungi.
Now you often come across with in skin care, because it helps with skin problems, such as dryness, chapping and eczema.
1. Propolis doesn’t irritate your skin
It’s made by honeybees, so it doesn’t contain artificial substances, such as parabens, mineral oils or silicones.
This makes propolis a very suitable ingredient for sensitive skin. Because it’s all natural, it doesn’t irritate your skin.
2. Propolis restores dry skin
If you suffer from dry skin, you can also suffer from cracks in your skin. Propolis can help with this problem. It keeps your skin soft and smooth.
It’s also easy to spread, so that your skin doesn’t become sticky.
3. Propolis doesn’t clog your pores
Propolis moisturizes your skin well and absorbs quickly into your skin. It doesn’t leave a layer.
As a result, your pores don’t get clogged. Because of this propolis doesn’t get you pimples, blackheads or impurities. So it’s also very suitable for oily skin.
