5 Reasons To Ditch Makeup Wipes

A friend stayed overnight unexpectedly. She borrowed pajamas from me and asked for makeup wipes. I said I don’t have it, but I do have a cleanser.

‘Oh no, makeup wipes are fine’, she said.
‘But I don’t have makeup wipes’, I replied again.
‘But I only use makeup wipes.’

Awkward silence

She went to sleep with her makeup on. I couldn’t convince her to remove it with my cleanser.

I don’t have any makeup swipes at home, because I hate them. I never get all my makeup off with it, especially not the waterproof. And they always dry out quickly. Yet they always feel refreshing, but I don’t think that’s enough.

I always thought that no one uses makeup swipes anymore, but I still come across them in Dutch drugstores. And apparently my friend still uses them. So I’ll give you 5 reasons why you better ditch them!

1. They don’t really clean your face

Makeup wipes aren’t able to clean your face. They remove some makeup and superficial bacteria, but they aren’t able to deep clean your face.

This will leave dirt behind in your pores. They get clogged, irritated and pimples will appear.

In addition, the wipes ensure that you make sweeping movements over your face. This actually spreads the dirt all over your face…

2. They contain harmful ingredients

Makeup wipes contain ingredients that aren’t great for your skin, such as alcohol and perfume. These ingredients are in it to keep the wipes moist, clean and fresh.

Do you have sensitive skin? Then these ingredients aren’t great for your skin. They increase the risk of irritation, redness, dryness and tightness.

3. They are too rough for your skin

A makeup wipe is quite rough for your skin. The wipes have a coarse structure with which they can damage your skin barrier.

A damaged skin barrier makes your skin more sensitive to external influences. This makes your skin sensitive and aging faster.

4. You get wrinkles faster

Are you a fan of makeup wipes and have you been using them for months or maybe years?

Watch out, because it will dehydrate your skin. After a while you’ll see more fine lines, wrinkles and dullness.

5. They are bad for the environment

You throw makeup wipes away after you use them. That’s why they are bad for the environment.

They are also made with substances that aren’t biodegradable. So don’t use them if you care about the environment!
